ATMEL SIGNS DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH MARSHALL INDUSTRIES

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel Corp. (NASDAQ: ATML) announced today that it has signed a distribution agreement with Marshall Industries (NYSE: MI) covering all of the firm's North American outlets. The agreement will be effective March 1, 1993.
Marshall will distribute Atmel's full product line through its 38 locations in the United States and Canada. "Marshall is a top national distributor whose strategies parallel that of Atmel's long-term distributor program," said George Perlegos, Atmel's president and chief executive officer. "With some 500 inside and outside sales people and 35 field application engineers, Marshall will be a key element in Atmel's domestic business growth.
"As a major national distributor, Marshall will provide Atmel a new broad base of customers and world-class quality with its ISO-9002 certified services and facilities," continued Perlegos. ISO-9002 is an international standard which defines quality assurance in production and installation.
Robert Rodin, president of Marshall Industries said, "This is an exciting opportunity for us to strengthen our product offerings in Flash, EEPROM, EPROM, and in field and factory programmable logic."
Key to the Atmel contribution to the Marshall line is the company's family of single-voltage Flash memories. The company manufactures a full complement of 5-volt-only-Flash circuits and recently introduced the world's first set of 3-volt only Flash devices.
Marshall Industries offers a broad line of franchised, brand name products, accompanied by high-quality service. General product areas include semiconductors, connectors, passive components, computer systems and peripherals, production supplies, tool kits, instrumentation and workstations. Value-added services range from component testing and assembly; just-in-time (JIT) inventory management and delivery systems, including kitting and contract assembly to sophisticated computer interface services such as electronic data interchange (EDI).
Atmel designs, develops and markets, on a worldwide basis, over 250 mainline semiconductor products including non-volatile memories, programmable logic and Flash memories. The company manufactures the world's broadest lines of low-power circuits and serial-interface electrically erasable programmable read-only memories (EEPROM). The company is headquartered in San Jose, with additional manufacturing facilities in Colorado Springs, Colo., and maintains sales and field applications offices throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
