In last year's fourth quarter, the company's revenues were $40,946,000 and net income was $4,720,000 or 25 cents per share. The current quarter's revenues grew by 15 percent from the prior quarter's of $59,016,000 and earnings grew 25 percent from the prior quarter's earnings of $8,293,000 or 40 cents per share.
Revenues for the fiscal year, Atmel's ninth, grew 59 percent from the prior year to a record $221,724,000 as net income increased 115 percent to $30,017,000 or $1.47 per share. In 1992, revenues were $139,801,000 with net income of $13,934,000 or 77 cents per share.
"This is the second quarter in a row where our sequential growth has surpassed 15 percent. Strong demand across our memory product lines in all geographic markets, especially Japan, and the ability of our manufacturing organization to increase output contributed to this performance," said George Perlegos, Atmel's president and chief executive officer. "We are on schedule with our new fabrication facility and expect to be in production before the end of the year.
"Bookings in the fourth quarter again averaged 1.2 to 1," Perlegos added.
Headquartered in San Jose, with additional manufacturing facilities in Colorado Springs, Colo., Atmel is a broad line supplier of in-system programmable and other complex integrated circuits.
