ATLAS ANNOUNCES OREGON MINING REGULATIONS TO BE REVIEWED
DENVER, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Atlas Corp. (NYSE: AZ) announced today that Oregon's Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) has determined that certain aspects of the proposed state regulations for the chemical process mining industry will be subject to technical review by an independent third party. The EQC believes that this review will provide an objective analysis on the more controversial aspects of the proposed regulations. Atlas anticipates that this review could delay permitting efforts on the company's Grassy Mountain Project in Malheur County, Ore. by up to three months.
"Atlas, the Oregon Mining Council and other mining companies fully endorse the EQC decision to postpone approval of regulations for the industry," stated Richard Blubaugh, Vice President of Regulatory and Governmental Affairs for Atlas. "This represents an opportunity for the EQC to better understand the technical complexities of key issues and to develop reasonable, balanced and economically sound rules for the mining industry in Oregon. We believe that the effects of a delay in permitting will be more than offset by the development of fair regulations that, while protecting the environment, will allow the development of the mining industry in Oregon."
