ATLANTIC COAST AIRLINES TO LAUNCH NORTHEAST EXPANSION FROM NEWARK
 ON DEC. 1
WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Atlantic Coast Airlines, which operates as United Express, today announced that it would begin operating flights between Newark International Airport and four Northeastern cities, with service in two markets to begin on Dec. 1, 1992, and in two other markets on Feb. 10, 1993.
Initially, on Dec. 1, United Express will operate four non-stop round trips between Newark International Airport and Buffalo, N.Y., and three round trips to Rochester, N.Y. Then, on Feb. 10, 1993, Manchester, N.H., and Syracuse, N.Y., will be added to the list of cities served from Newark, with four round trips in each market. Atlantic Coast Airlines already serves Newark from its hub at Washington Dulles International Airport and recently announced that it would increase flight frequency to seven round trips per day between the two markets starting on Feb. 10, 1993.
In addition to the Washington Dulles service, the airline will also begin service between Washington National Airport and Newark on Nov. 1, operating one round trip per day. Flights on the four new routes from Newark will be operated with the state-of-the-art British Aerospace Jetstream 32 aircraft.
As of Dec. 1, United Express will operate a total of 11 daily departures from Newark. That number will grow to 24 on Feb. 10, 1993, with the addition of the Manchester and Syracuse flights. United Airlines currently operates 36 flights per day from Newark, predominantly utilizing wide-body aircraft, to such notable non-stop destinations as Tokyo Narita, London Heathrow, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami and Orlando, Fla.
"We are very excited about the potential of these new routes," said Kerry Skeen, chief operating officer of Atlantic Coast Airlines. "Not only is there a well-established local market between Newark and these four cities, but we will also connect a significant number of customers to the numerous, wide-body United Airlines flights as well. Now these communities will have another viable alternative for their air travel," Skeen concluded.
Late last week, Atlantic Coast Airlines announced that on Feb. 10, 1993, it would initiate a major expansion from the United Airlines/United Express hub at Washington Dulles International Airport to six primary Northeastern destinations: Philadelphia, Newark, Buffalo, Rochester, Manchester, and Providence. Together, United Airlines and United Express will offer over 200 departures per day from Washington Dulles International Airport.
Atlantic Coast Airlines operates as United Express through a comprehensive marketing agreement with United Airlines. The two airlines coordinate flight schedules to provide passengers with convenient connections to destinations across the country and around the world from their hub at Washington Dulles International Airport. Atlantic Coast Airlines operates a fleet of 35 aircraft -- 22 British Aerospace Jetstream 32s, and 13 Embraer Brasilia 120s. At Washington Dulles, the United Express carrier currently operates 114 daily departures, most of any airline, to 41 Eastern destinations. For each flight on United Express, passengers receive 500 miles credit in United Airlines' popular Mileage Plus frequent flyer program.
