Kerry Skeen, president of Atlantic Coast Airlines, said: "The positive results for the month of December reflect the company's consistent pattern of growth throughout the year. With our recent announcements regarding the establishment of a United Express operation in Florida, and the tentative Air Wisconsin asset acquisition agreement with UAL Corp., we look to continue this growth trend in 1993."
Atlantic Coast Airlines will begin operations in Florida as United Express on April 1, 1993. The Florida route network will be centered around the large United Airlines presence in both Orlando, Fla., and Miami. Last week, the airline also announced that it had reached tentative agreement with UAL Corp. (NYSE: UAL), parent of United Airlines, for the purchase of certain assets of United Airlines subsidiary, Air Wisconsin. That airline also operates as United Express at Washington Dulles. The expected date for completion of the transaction is also April 1, 1993.
Employee-owned Atlantic Coast Airlines is based in Sterling, Va. It has operated as United Express since December 1989 and has experienced significant growth since that time. Today, Atlantic Coast Airlines serves 35 cities from the Washington Dulles hub. Its fleet consists of 37 aircraft -- 24 British Aerospace Jetstream Super 31s and 13 Embraer Brasilias. Atlantic Coast Airlines will also accept delivery of another four Jetstream aircraft during the next two months. At Washington Dulles, the United Express carrier currently operates over 100 daily departures, most of any airline. For each flight on United Express, passengers receive 500 miles credit in United Airlines' popular Mileage Plus frequent flyer program.
