ATLANTA SUMMERSPREE '92 KICKS OFF IN NASHVILLE

ATLANTA SUMMERSPREE '92 KICKS OFF IN NASHVILLE
The Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) wants Nashville

residents to consider Atlanta and Georgia as the destination for their next vacation.
To inform Nashville-area residents of all the fun and exciting values awaiting them in Atlanta, the ACVB is hosting a media presentation in Nashville on Tuesday, May 19.
The presentation will include a trade show featuring Atlanta attractions and hotels as well as photo opportunities with "Homer the Brave" representing the 1991 National League champion Atlanta Braves, animals from Zoo Atlanta and Atlanta city officials. Interview opportunities will also be available.
With summer fast approaching, the major tourism promotional campaign of the ACVB, Summerspree '92, began in 11 southeastern cities this month.
The $1.2 million marketing program, sponsored by the ACVB and 32 co-sponsors, is designed to increase summer tourism in metropolitan Atlanta by offering regional vacationers special Summerspree discount packages for the most popular family vacation period -- Memorial Day through Labor Day. The program features discounts for metro Atlanta hotels, attractions and cultural events and sites.
On May 14, television commercials began airing in the targeted markets and nationally on SuperStation WTBS, providing viewers with a toll-free number (800-ATLANTA) for metro Atlanta and Georgia information. Additionally, companion radio spots are presently being aired on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
The campaign, now in its ninth year, includes 60-second and 30- second television commercials and a valuable Summerspree coupon brochure to be included in all requested Summerspree information packets. The coupon brochure will also be available at Georgia Welcome Centers throughout the state.
A feature introduced in 1991 and continuing in 1992 is an interactive toll-free number which allows callers to be transferred directly to hotel reservation agents. "With this exciting new feature, callers can make their reservations, get up-to-date calendar of events information and get directions to major attractions with one easy phone call," said W.B. Baldwin, ACVB senior vice president of marketing.
"During 1991, Summerspree generated approximately 58,000 responses from consumers in the targeted markets, and with the combination of our existing and new attractions and accommodations, we expect the program to be even more successful this year," said Baldwin.
Summerspree is a cooperative marketing effort with 33 metro Atlanta sponsors. This year's major sponsors include the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau; Cobb County Convention and Visitors Bureau; DeKalb Convention and Visitors Bureau; Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau; the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism; Atlanta Braves; Atlanta Marriott Hotels and Suites; Georgia's Stone Mountain Park; Six Flags Over Georgia; Underground Atlanta; White Water Park and American Adventures; and Zoo Atlanta.
The vast choices of attractions and accommodations in metro Atlanta, coupled with the fact that Summerspree travelers can drive to the city in less than a day, make Atlanta the perfect getaway destination.
The ACVB encourages all Nashville media to attend the presentation and reception on Tuesday, May 19, at 3 p.m. at the location listed below. If planning to attend, please RSVP to the ACVB at 404-521-6645.
