ATLANTA AD AGENCY APOLOGIZES TO CANADIANS
FOR UPSIDE-DOWN FLAG IN THURSDAY'S TORONTO SUN
ATLANTA, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Aydlotte & Cartwright, one of Atlanta's largest full-service advertising agencies, knows how to communicate regret for displaying the Canadian flag upside-down during the second game of the World Series Sunday night at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium: Aydlotte & Cartwright is running an ad in Thursday's (Oct. 22) Toronto Sun.
The ad carries an upside-down headline, "We're Sorry," followed by copy stating: "Please accept the apologies of an Atlanta ad firm accustomed to turning markets upside down, not the Canadian flag. Of course we still want the Braves to come out on top." In place of the words "Canadian flag" is a picture of the flag with the maple leaf pointing the right direction.
"Our agency supports the Braves through thick and thin, and we will continue to do so. Part of that pledge means joining the city in an apology that lets Canadians know the hosts of the 1996 Olympics -- which includes every business and resident of Atlanta -- value multiculturalism and respect the traditions, beliefs and symbols of other countries. Together with Atlanta, we want to say 'We're sorry' in a light-hearted way for what Braves fans know is a very serious error," said Bill Aydlotte, president and creative director, Aydlotte & Cartwright.
Aydlotte, a nationally known creative talent, started the agency with partner Jeane Cartwright eight years ago. A $26 million agency known for its innovations in health care marketing, advertising and public relations, Aydlotte & Cartwright has produced award-winning campaigns for clients around the country, including Illinois Power and some of the nation's largest hospitals and medical-related institutions.
