ATL SETTLES REDUCED CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

BOTHELL, Wash., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Technology Laboratories Inc. (ATL) (NASDAQ-NMS: ATLI) announced today that it has settled the class action lawsuit filed against the company in July 1992. The settlement was agreed upon after the plaintiff decided not to pursue certain claims in the original complaint. The settlement is subject to approval by the U.S. District Court.
The lawsuit was filed by Seattle attorney Steve W. Berman on July 27, 1992, on behalf of Frank Scarso and a purported class of persons purchasing the company's shares from Feb. 12 to July 21, 1992.
"After the complaint was filed, the company, through its attorneys, offered to provide plaintiff and his counsel information we did not have access to when we filed the case. After a series of meetings with ATL's attorneys and investigating the information provided by ATL, the plaintiff accepted our recommendation to not pursue certain claims asserted in the original complaint," said Berman.
ATL and the plaintiff's attorneys agreed to settle the remainder of the case to avoid litigation uncertainties and the major expense and distraction of management that continuation of even the smaller case would have required.
ATL continues to believe that the remaining issues of the suit are without merit. The settlement amount of $700,000 will not have a material impact on ATL's financial position or results. The company expects a portion of this amount to be reimbursed by insurance.
ATL, with headquarters in Bothell, is a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture, marketing and service of medical ultrasound systems. The company, with revenues of $324 million, employs over 2,000 people at locations around the world.
