ATL OPENS SUBSIDIARY IN ITALY

 BOTHELL, Wash., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Technology Laboratories Inc. (ATL) (NASDAQ-NMS: ATLI), a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture, marketing and service of premium quality medical ultrasound systems, announced today that it is opening a subsidiary in Milan, Italy.
 "Italy is Europe's third-largest market for medical ultrasound systems. Opening a direct ATL subsidiary in Italy is key to our long- term growth plans," said Dennis C. Fill, ATL chairman and chief executive officer.
 ATL has established a major market position in Italy over the past several years through a distributor arrangement.
 "Sales to hospitals, clinics and physicians outside of the United States grew to over 40 percent of our 1992 revenues of $324 million," said Cass Diaz, vice president of ATL Europe. "Sales in Europe accounted for the largest proportion of the company's international revenues. Our all-digital Ultramark(R) 9 High Definition(TM) Imaging System enjoys a growing installed base in Italy."
 ATL is the only company to offer the precision of all-digital broadband architecture and invested over $38 million in research and development in 1992.
 Edoardo Garavaglia will serve as managing director of the subsidiary. Garavaglia is a native Italian and has over 10 years of management experience in high technology medical equipment. He brings to ATL an in-depth knowledge of the Italian ultrasound market.
 ATL S.p.A. is located at Centro Direzionale Milanofiori, Palazzo E 2, in Milan.
 With corporate headquarters near Seattle and incorporated in 1973, ATL has grown to become one of the world's largest medical ultrasound companies with an installed base exceeding 15,000 systems. The company employs over 2,000 people in locations around the world. ATL's European operations are headquartered in Munich, Germany. The company also has subsidiaries located in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
