ATL INTRODUCES NEW VASCULAR SCANHEAD

BOTHELL, Wash., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ATL (Advanced Technology Laboratories Inc.) (NASDAQ: ATLI) announced today the introduction of its sixth broadband scanhead for the digital Ultramark(R) 9 High Definition(TM) Imaging (HDI(TM)) ultrasound system. The L7-4 Broadband Linear Array Scanhead is being introduced at the Society of Vascular Technology and Society for Vascular Surgery meetings in Washington, D.C., June 2-9.
Offering improved resolution over a wide range of depths, the L7-4 may be the only HDI scanhead needed for all cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular applications.
More diagnostic information is provided, facilitating assessment of carotid arteries and evaluation of deep venous thrombus in the thigh and calf. In addition, the scanhead provides better visualization of difficult to scan vessels for greater confidence and shorter exam time.
The L7-4 broadband scanhead takes full advantage of ATL's new Extended Signal Processing, or ESP, technology. ESP uses real-time parallel processing and system software to optimize the entire image formation path and extract further tissue information from the HDI broadband digital beamformer. This capability significantly improves tissue contrast resolution allowing earlier more confident detection of anomalies and pathologies.
The L7-4 is available only with HDI systems with the Extended Signal Processing option. ATL will begin customer deliveries of the L7-4 in July 1993.
ATL, with headquarters in Bothell, is a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture, marketing and service of medical ultrasound systems. The company, with revenues of $324 million in 1992, employs over 2,000 people at locations around the world.
