ATL BEGINS CUSTOMER DELIVERIES OF NEW BROAD BANDWIDTH SCANHEAD
SEATTLE, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Westmark International Inc. (NASDAQ: WMRK) announced today that its ultrasound subsidiary, Advanced Technology Laboratories Inc. (ATL), has begun customer deliveries of its third broad bandwidth scanhead for the High Definition(TM) Imaging (HDI|TM~) option to the Ultramark(R) 9 Digital Ultrasound System. The C9-5 broadband intracavitary scanhead represents a highly significant advance in the application of ultrasound for both prostate and transvaginal scanning.
The extended frequency range of the C9-5 scanhead provides superb image quality for first trimester obstetric and general gynecological studies and is optimally focused for prostate studies. The small diameter tip (19mm) and lightweight handle provide increased ease of use and patient comfort. The 150-degree field of view and end-fire design eliminate the need for dual transducer configurations and cumbersome water path devices. The C9-5 offers pulsed and color Doppler imaging capability. A prostate biopsy guide is also available for this scanhead.
"The C9-5 delivers the superior tissue definition and color Doppler sensitivity of HDI technology to several additional applications, each of which has significant potential for expanding the clinical use of ultrasound," said Allen Guisinger, executive vice president. "Superior tissue differentiation, combined with highly sensitive color Doppler, has significant implications in prostate scanning. We are also very excited about the potential that ultrasound offers in the crucial area of ovarian scanning and other gynecological applications. Our clinical evaluators have confirmed to us that the C9-5 sets a new standard for intracavitary imaging and color Doppler. It further extends HDI's lead over any other competing technology."
The C9-5 joins the L10-5 and A6-3 as the third in ATL's series of broad bandwidth High Definition Imaging scanheads.
Westmark, headquartered in Seattle, is a worldwide developer, manufacturer and distributor of diagnostic ultrasound systems through its subsidiary Advanced Technology Laboratories Inc. in Bothell, Wash., and patient monitoring and clinical information systems through its subsidiary SpaceLabs Medical Inc. in Redmond, Wash.
In late June, ATL and SpaceLabs will become independent publicly traded companies on NASDAQ. SpaceLabs will begin trading on a "when issued" basis on June 17 under the symbol SLMD. Westmark will be renamed ATL and begin trading under the symbol ATLI on June 29.
