 ATL, HP SETTLE PATENT DISPUTE
BOTHELL, Wash., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Technology

Laboratories Inc. (ATL) (NASDAQ-NMS: ATLI) and Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) (NYSE: HWP) have settled a lawsuit concerning an ATL patent for multiplane transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) technology, ATL said today.
In accordance with terms of the settlement, HP has paid ATL an undisclosed sum of money for the right to use ATL's multiplane TEE technology. The companies have also exchanged patent cross-licenses for all technology owned by the individual companies concerning multiplane technology.
Transesophageal imaging with ultrasound allows the physician to obtain real-time views of the patient's heart and cardiovascular system through the esophagus. Multiplane TEE allows clinicians a full range of views, bringing a new level of clinical efficacy for the rapid diagnosis of congenital and acquired heart disease.
ATL, with headquarters in Bothell, is a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of diagnostic ultrasound systems. ATL stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ATLI.
