ATHLETICS: Speedy Devonish earns European Cup call-up.
COVENTRY GODIVA'S Marlon Devonish has pipped World indoor 200m silver medallist Christian Malcolm to the final place in the British team for next weekend's European Cup final in Germany.Although Malcolm recorded a brilliant sprint double at Thursday's Helsinki Grand Prix, the selectors have instead chosen Devonish following his superb 200m victory in Poland last weekend when he beat a strong field which included Olympic bronze medallist Ato Boldon.
UK Athletics performance director Max Jones said: "Marlon and Christian are both world-class athletes. We have every confidence Marlon will produce an elite performance in Bremen."
Meanwhile, Katharine Merry has pulled out of tomorrow's Nuremburg meeting. The Dunchurch sprinter is suffering from a throat and chest infection.
