ATHLETICS: Sick Merry on the mend.

OLYMPIC bronze medallist Katharine Merry is recovering at her home today following a serious throat infection.

Merry's management company, Nuff Respect, confirmed Merry had been rushed to hospital on Monday night with a relapse of the problem which had ruled her out of last week's AAA Championships in Birmingham.

She was suffering from a serious medical condition known as Quinsy - which occurs when an abscess develops on the tonsils making it difficult to breathe or swallow.

The 400 metres sprinter from Dunchurch has already been forced to pull out of the Norwich Union London Grand Prix on August 8, but is hopeful of making the relay team for the World Championships later this month.
