ATHLETICS: Shiels starts running back into his best form.

ABERGELE'S Simon Shiels provided further evidence that he is approaching his best form again with a comfortable win in the Buckley Charity 5km race, writes Gareth Hughes. He finished 34 seconds ahead of runner-up Robin SedmanSmith (West Cheshire), who won the Deestriders' Off-Road race atShotton a few days before. Shiels also led Abergele to the men's team prize, the ladies' award going to Prestatyn.

THE coming weekend's busy programme opens Friday night with the first meeting in Deeside's track and field Grand Prix. On Saturday Bro Dysynni and Prestatyn are the sole North Wales representatives in the annual Welsh Castles Relay.

There is also the second round of the North Wales Junior Grand Prix. Sunday is the Coedpoeth 4.2-mile race.
