Swedish network operator ATENIT Wireless Access said on Monday (13 December) that it had signed a deal with 12 municipalities in Kalmar, Sweden, to deploy a wireless broadband access network in the region.

The access network would give full geographical broadband coverage in the region that has more than 170,000 inhabitants, the company said.

The network would be based on the UMTS TDD standard with technology developed by IPWireless.

ATENIT said that it would deploy the network over a period of six months with estimated full coverage in the Kalmar region by July 2005.
