ATA CALLS ON U.S. TRUCKING INDUSTRY TO AID
 IN HURRICANE DISASTER RELIEF EFFORT
WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Calling on the nation's trucking industry to help the victims of Hurricane Andrew, the American Trucking Associations (ATA) today asked motor carriers to join in an effort to haul relief supplies into devastated South Florida.
In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Interstate Commerce Commission, ATA will assist in the relief effort by coordinating offers of help from motor carriers, said ATA President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue.
Drivers, tractor and trailers are needed to haul food, water, medical supplies and building materials into disaster areas in South Florida and along the Gulf Coast. Donohue encouraged carriers to contact the ATA Office of Public Affairs at 703-838-1873 to offer assistance.
