AT THE MOVIES: Funny mummy; BABY MAMA (12A, 99mins).
THE STARS: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Sigourney Weaver, Greg Kinnear, Steve Martin.
THE STORY: Single and successful, businesswoman Kate Holbrook (Fey) decides at 37 she wants a child, but discovers she has little chance of getting pregnant.
She recruits South Philly girl Angie Ostrowiski (Poehler) as an unlikely surrogate, but things don't go to plan when this feisty Baby Mother turns up at Kate's home with nowhere to live.
THE VERDICT: This smart and urbane comedy is the perfect vehicle for the everfunny Tina Fey (her star is certainly on the rise thanks to her hilarious TV series 30 Rock), and while it offers little in terms of originality or real hilarity, it is a modestly amusing and engaging body-clock comedy.
Fey is totally at ease playing the busy exec who realises time is passing her by, while Amy Poehler also has fun as the brash cocktails-willing surrogate.
For a while the film relies on Odd Couple comedy as the mismatched pair have to try to share a house, but soon gets back on course as the babe is due to be delivered. A great support cast - Steve Martin as her new age boss, Greg Kinnear as possible love interest and Sigourney Weaver as head of the surrogacy centre - help keep things smooth and appealing.
SURRO GACY comedy offers some fertile fun.
