AT HARNISCHFEGER INDUSTRIES: GRADE BECOMES CHAIRMAN, MCKAY IS NAMED PRESIDENT AND DON H. DAVIS, JR. IS ELECTED TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 MILWAUKEE, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeffrey T. Grade today became chairman of Harnischfeger Industries, Inc. (NYSE: HPH) succeeding William W. Goessel, chairman since 1986, who retired yesterday as chairman and as a director of the company, it was announced by the company.
 John A. McKay was named president and chief operating officer succeeding Grade in that role. In 1992, McKay had been named senior vice president and chief operating officer following a six year assignment as president of Beloit Corporation, Harnischfeger Industries' largest subsidiary.
 Elected by the board to succeed Goessel as a director was Don H. Davis, Jr., president of the Allen-Bradley Company, a subsidiary of Rockwell International Corporation and a world leader in the development of advanced manufacturing technology. Davis joined Allen Bradley in 1963 as a sales trainee and filled progressively more responsible positions. He was appointed president of Allen-Bradley, which is a unit of Rockwell International's Electronic Group in July, 1989. At the time he was named to Rockwell's senior management council.
 Harnischfeger Industries is a diversified international holding company that operates four subsidiaries involved in: papermaking machinery manufacturing (Beloit Corporation); surface mining and overhead material handling equipment manufacturing (Harnischfeger Corporation); and systems of integration services (Harnischfeger Engineer, Inc. and Syscon Corporation).
