A Premises-Based Cisco ASA Option has been introduced by US communications holding company AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) as an enhancement to its Managed Firewall portfolio, intended for customers of all sizes, with features suited to small and midsized businesses.
AT&T said the Firewall Option incorporates AT&T's software solutions with scalable, end-to-end management, monitoring and maintenance to help customers better protect their Internet infrastructure. It allows customers to locate services including those for electronic mail and web access in the protected network and control access to these servers.
AT&T offers the service through its BusinessDirect web portal, with the firewall service available bundled with AT&T's Managed Internet Service or as a stand-alone service for use with any ISP connection.
AT&T claimed that with its Managed Firewall Service - Cisco ASA Option, it has taken security capabilities and expertise usually directed to large enterprises and developed a low-cost solution for small and midsized businesses. It confirmed the service meets requirements for dedicated firewall appliances to protect the network while providing outbound connections and reliable Internet access.
