AT&T awarded USD1.3m SONET ring service contract by Republic Services.

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-16 November 2007-AT&T awarded USD1.3m SONET ring service contract by Republic Services(C)1994-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

A five year, USD1.3m contract has been awarded to US communications holding company AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) by Republic Services Inc, a provider of solid-waste collection, transfer and disposal services.

AT&T said it will provide Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) ring service for Republic Services, giving it a self-healing network architecture which protects critical applications from being disrupted or degraded in quality due to loss of signal or transmission impairment.

According to AT&T, the SONET ring system will offer alternate communications circuits should the network be disrupted, with Republic Services able to continue business operations. It claimed the ring architecture secures a reverse data transport path, ensuring information can take an alternate route for fast communications delivery, even if the SONET fibre is cut.

Republic Services required a reliable 24/7 connection, with increased bandwidth and redundancy, in order to maintain its waste collection and disposal for US communities and keep up with its business. It said the SONET ring solution will connect its centres across the US with higher bandwidth and more flexible routing.
