 AT&T SIGNS DISTRIBUTOR IN BULGARIA,
EXPANDING SALES OF SMALL PHONE SYSTEMS IN CENTRAL EUROPE
PHILADELPHIA, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) today announced a distributorship agreement with Bulgarian Posts & Telecommunication Ltd. (BP&T), expanding its sales of small office telephone equipment in Central Europe.
The phone systems are already available through distributors in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and the C.I.S.
"This region -- one of the fastest growing business markets in the world -- is expected to be the second largest (after Germany) in all of Europe by 1996," said Jeff Babka, vice president-international, AT&T General Business Systems.
"In Bulgaria, the PTT is uniquely positioned to deliver our products to small and medium-sized local businesses."
Initially, the Sofia-based PTT will sell and service AT&T'S line of PARTNER(R) and PARTNER Plus communications systems.
"This is the first agreement between BP&T and an American company," said Emil Pavlov, vice president, BP&T. "We believe that AT&T will provide our customers with high quality, reliable, and affordable systems that will grow into the next century along with our customers' businesses."
The agreement is part of AT&T's strategy to become the leading provider of premises-based communications equipment in the world by 1996. The line of small office telephone systems is already sold through 35 distributors in more than 30 countries.
For example, Internet, AT&T's distributor in Hungary, recently began installing PARTNER systems for the nation's largest bank -- the Posta Bank -- which has more than 2,300 locations.
In 1991, AT&T derived 24 percent of its revenues from international sources.
