AT&T SIGNS $400 MILLION DEAL WITH HOSPITALITY FRANCHISE SYSTEMS, INC.

PHOENIX, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) and Hospitality Franchise Systems, Inc. (NYSE: HFS) today announced that they have signed a $400 million contract in which AT&T will offer long distance services to more than 3,600 franchised Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Super 8 hotels and motels around the world.
The agreement will also provide toll-free reservation calling services for the four franchised hotel chains owned by HFS, the world's largest franchiser of hotel rooms.
AT&T's five-year contract, one of its largest, expands its previous agreement with HFS. AT&T will now service the 1-800-800-8000 Super 8 number, previously serviced by Sprint, and the 1-800-DAYSINN number, previously serviced by LDDS. In addition, HFS will also retain AT&T 800 service for Howard Johnson and Ramada reservations.
Hotel guests at participating Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Super 8 properties will be able to access AT&T from their room by direct dialing or by using their AT&T Calling Card.
In addition, AT&T also provides the AT&T Software Defined Network for HFS's corporate offices and the participating franchised lodging facilities of Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Super 8.
John Snodgrass, HFS president and chief operating officer, said, "Our association with AT&T offers our franchisees extremely competitive long distance telephone rates, reliability and high quality service, and, in turn, our franchisees provide their guests with even better value when they stay at Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Super 8."
HFS's hotel brands have reservation centers in Phoenix, Knoxville, Tenn., Oklahoma City, Aberdeen, S.D., and Parsippany, N.J. Approximately 23 million calls were made to the Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Super 8 toll-free 800 reservation numbers in 1992.
HFS, the world's largest franchiser of hotel rooms, is a publicly held company with its stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "HFS." The company has more than 3,600 Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Super 8 franchises with over 360,000 rooms in the United States, Canada, Mexico, India and Europe.
