AT&T PARADYNE ANNOUNCES NEW HIGH-SPEED DATA AND FAX MODEMS
LARGO, Fla., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T Pardyne announced today its entry into the consumer and small business modem market with a new family of high-speed data and FAX modems.
This new family consists of five models, including the AT&T DataPort(TM) 9.6/FAX modem and the DataPort 14.4/FAX modems, both of which are available in desktop and PC-internal models. Also available will be a 14.4 external data modem. The 9.6/FAX modems combine 9,600 bps (V.32) data speeds and 38,400 bps (V.42bis) throughput with Group III FAX compatibility. The DataPort 14.4/FAX modems add V.32bis compliance for raw data line speeds of 14,400 bps and throughput up to 57,600 bps.
The modems, which start at $415, emphasize AT&T reliability and performance and are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. The products will be available via selected AT&T Paradyne sales channels and new mass market channels in November. The company will distribute the products through mail order, dealer and retail channels, as well as through value-added resellers.
"A key benefit of these plug-and-play modems," said AT&T Paradyne Vice President Jean-Claude Vrignaud, "is that they offer high-speed data and FAX capabilities, even on less-than-ideal lines, which will allow customers to lower telephone costs and improve efficiency.
"The reason it works so well on weak lines is that the modem has the first Optical phone Line Interface (OLI) used in V.32bis modems," Vrignaud said.
The modems also offer flexible configuration options and include free QuickLink II(TM) communications and FAX software.
The modems will be manufactured by AT&T Paradyne, in Largo. AT&T Paradyne develops, manufactures, markets and supports global data communications products.
