AT&T PARADYNE ANNOUNCES JOINT ACCESS MULTIPLEXER DEVELOPMENT AND DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH PREMISYS COMMUNICATIONS

LARGO, Fla., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T Paradyne announced today a joint access multiplexer development and distribution agreement with Premisys Communications Inc. that will lead to industry-first features for the T1/E1 network access market.
Based on customer demand, AT&T Paradyne plans to integrate some of its leading technologies with Premisys' Integrated Multiple Access Communications Server (IMACS) platform to meet customers' needs for advanced network services that offer reduced costs, as well as enhanced availability and features. Examples of potential integration include:
-- High-speed and proprietary modem technology for creating dial
 modem hubs.
-- Voice compression for superior voice quality using minimum
 bandwidth.
-- CAP (carrierless amplitude and phase modulation) technology
that will allow remoting the unit or its channels without
 requiring T1/E1 digital repeaters.
The new ACCULINK Access Controller multiplexer product line will be designed for customers seeking to benefit from presently available public network services, such as SDN, MEGACOM, and INTERSPAN frame relay and who are planning for future services, including SMDS and ATM.
AT&T Paradyne plans to evolve products in the new line to be consistent with the latest network services allowing customers to grow and enhance their networks, while protecting their initial investments.
The unique, multifunction bus architecture of the ACCULINK Access Controller product permits growth for up to eight T1 or E1 links, a full complement of voice and data interfaces and provisions for "resource card" slots. These card slots accept additional processors that will allow customers to take advantage of future services. Additionally, the unit can be optioned for complete redundancy to ensure non-stop operation.
"Together, AT&T Paradyne and Premisys Communications will be a unique force in the network access market," said AT&T Paradyne's Chief Operating Officer, Roger Dorf. "Premisys' innovative approach for low- cost and high-functionality, coupled with AT&T Paradyne's far-reaching distribution channels and core technologies, will provide customers with a new product line with industry-leading price performance."
Bill Smith, Premisys' senior vice president, said, "For the past two years, Premisys has been developing a new generation of cost-effective access products. Our partnership with AT&T Paradyne will enable the worldwide user community to quickly gain access to our unique technology from one of the most well-known, highly respected communications companies in the industry."
