AT&T OBTAINS POLISH ORDER FOR OPTICAL FIBER
 WARSAW, Poland, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) announced

today the receipt of an order from the Polish PTT -- Telekomunikacja Polska (TP S.A.) -- for the supply and installation of optical fiber cables.
The contract, signed between AT&T Network Systems International (AT&T-NSI) and TP S.A. in Warsaw, is for a turnkey system of approximately 875 miles (1,400 kilometers) of fiber optic cable, connector apparatus, engineering and installation services. The contract is worth approximately $26 million. AT&T will manufacture the optical fiber cables locally at OTO Lublin in the city of Lublin.
At present, TP S.A. is rapidly modernizing its telecommunications network. The AT&T optical fiber cables will be used on the intercity routes of TP S.A.'s network connecting Warsaw, Lowdz, Sieradz, Wroclaw, Zgorzelec, Olszpyn, Poznan and Bydgoszcz. TP S.A. has secured financing for this order through the World Bank.
The manufacturing at OTO Lublin further demonstrates AT&T's commitment to Poland and its programs for the development and modernization of its telecom infrastructure. OTO Lublin, a long- established cable manufacturer in Europe, is located in the city of Lublin, some 150 miles (250 kilometers) southeast of the Polish capital of Warsaw. AT&T will work closely with its cable manufacturer to insure the highest levels of quality and manufacturing specifications, consistent with AT&T's own standards.
"Telecommunications is an essential ingredient for a viable, growing Polish economy. With AT&T's technology and cables, the Polish PTT will improve their network substantially," said Auke Gerbens, international sales and marketing vice president, AT&T-NSI, at the signing of the contract. "AT&T realizes the necessity of not only supplying products, but also of investing in the Polish economy."
Last year AT&T signed an outline contract with TP S.A. for the expansion and improvement of the Polish telecommunications network. The outline contract includes the supply of 5ESS(R) digital telephone switches and transmission equipment. With today's order for the optical fiber cables system, AT&T is now supplying its complete range of Network Systems products to Poland including switching, transmission, network operations systems and cable systems products.
