AT&T NAMES PRESIDENT AND CEO FOR ASIA/PACIFIC REGION

 HONG KONG, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T said today Walter J. Sousa, chief operating officer of Astec (BSR) PLC, has been appointed president and chief executive officer - AT&T Asia/Pacific.
 Sousa will lead AT&T's business units and staff operations in Asia/Pacific -- including Japan -- working closely with William J. Warwick, chairman and chief executive officer of AT&T China. Sousa will be a member of AT&T's Global Operations Team, which is responsible for planning and implementation of companywide policies and practices.
 Sousa will be based in Hong Kong.
 Before joining Astec, a global provider of switching power supplies, Sousa spent several years with Hewlett-Packard as one of that company's leading executives in Asia.

 Sousa has spent 11 years in Asia, most recently in Hong Kong overseeing the global operations of Astec. Prior to Astec, he held positions as president, Hewlett Packard-Asia, and managing director of Hewlett Packard's Southeast Asia operations.
 Sousa has served as vice president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, and as chairman, Committee for Productivity in Manufacturing in Singapore.
 He received a BSEE degree from the University of Santa Clara, and has a masters degree in public administration from American University.
 Sousa, 50, lives in Hong Kong with his wife and two children.
