AT&T NAMES EXECUTIVES TO LEAD EFFORTS IN JAPAN AND ASIA/PACIFIC REGION

PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) today announced it has appointed two executives who will lead efforts to bring AT&T communications products, including the videophone, to consumers in Japan and the Asia/Pacific region.
Shigehito ("Shig") Suzuki has been named international new business development vice president and Japan managing director for the consumer products division of AT&T. He will be based in Tokyo. He joins AT&T after a 22-year career with Marubeni, a Japanese global trading company in products from steel to network data services.
David W. Yang has been named Asia/Pacific managing director for AT&T's consumer products business. He will be based in Hong Kong.
In these newly created positions, Suzuki and Yang will be responsible for creating new business opportunities for AT&T Consumer Products, which designs, develops and markets communications products for the home and small business such as telephones, telephone answering systems, accessories, and AT&T's VideoPhone(TM) 2500.
Establishing new senior executive positions for Japan and Asia/Pacific is another step in AT&T Consumer Products' commitment to extend its U.S. market leadership globally.
Suzuki initiated and established the partnership between AT&T and Marubeni that resulted in the venture that launched AT&T in the laptop computer business.
The 44-year-old graduate of Kyoto University has held several positions with Marubeni Corporation and Marubeni America Corporation including responsibility for the import and export of electronics, telecommunications equipment and industrial machinery.
For the past six years, Yang has held positions in international business for AT&T. He came to the United States from Hong Kong as a teenager. He joined AT&T's Western Electric department in 1979 as a sales manager and also managed an exploratory project to integrate cellular telephones in new automobiles.
Yang currently is working with Hong Kong-based S. Megga Telecommunications Limited, a long-time manufacturing partner of AT&T for cordless telephones, in setting up a joint venture with the China National Posts and Telecommunications Industry Corporation (PTIC) to market, sell, distribute and support telecommunications products for the People's Republic of China. This collaborative effort is another step in the recently announced partnership between AT&T and the Chinese government to enhance and modernize the telecommunications infrastructure in China.
