 AT&T INTRODUCES NEW SERVICE FOR RESIDENTS OF CHINA
 SAN FRANCISCO, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- At a press conference


held in Bejing yesterday, AT&T introduced a new service for residents of China that makes calling relatives and friends in the United States easy, affordable, and more reliable. AT&T USADirect(R) Service In- Chinese allows callers to place calls to the Untied States with the assistance of a Chinese speaking AT&T operator.
 The launch of the service in China gives an additional 35 million households international calling capability for the first time. The service is a joint effort between AT&T and the Directorate General of Telecommunications to provide accessible international long distance service to Chinese citizens.
 Callers will dial 10810 from any phone, including home phones, calling centers and other public telephones. A Mandarin Chinese speaking AT&T operator will assist them in placing the collect call in the United States.
 Callers using the service can talk not only to their family and friends in the preferred language, but also to skilled AT&T operators who will help them place their calls.
 "We are pleased to offer this service in cooperation with the Directorate General of Telecommunications" said Margaret J. Barrett, director, global consumer services, AT&T. "Together we are making it easier for the residents of China to keep in touch with relatives and friends in the United States."
 With today's announcement, AT&T USADirect Service In-Language is being offered in 16 countries and four languages: Spanish, Polish, Hungarian and Chinese.
