AT&T EASYLINK SERVICES' CUSTOMERS TO HAVE ACCESS TO INTERNATIONAL
 NEWSWIRES THROUGH COMTEX
STAMFORD, Conn., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T EasyLink customers now have timely access to late-breaking global news through a relationship established with Comtex. Under the terms of the agreement, Comtex provides news, business and sports information through AT&T EasyLink Services.
Comtex's news monitoring service is provided as FYI NewsLink, an enhancement to the AT&T FYI Service, adding a broad range of timely news and information. This unique document management retrieval system allows users to search online with individually selected keywords relative to industry, company or event - such as a merger or a new product announcement. SEC filings are also available within 24 hours of release. FYI NewsLink is available with AT&T EasyLink Services' e-mail offerings, providing customers with multiple messaging and research capabilities from a single service, on a global basis.
AT&T EasyLink Service has also arranged with Comtex to have news and information made available to U.S. and international telex users. Similar to FYI NewsLink, users can receive news and information which has been custom designed and formatted prior to delivery to satisfy the parameters of more traditional telex delivery. A recent example was the special coverage of the Winter Olympics, to be provided again for the Summer Games.
Comtex supplies its distributors with over 1200 stories per day. The news is integrated from Deutsche Press Agentur, ITAR-TASS, Middle East News Network and a host of other sources. Comtex customizes menus and formats its stories for all of its customers. Its proprietary software offers several options for searching selected topics online, including the capability for users to set up their own individual profiles. Topical keywords eliminate the need for multiple synonyms during document retrieval. Full-text searches scan the entire story for any specific word appearing in the selected story. Combination searching using AND or NOT allow the definition of relationships between terms.
"As the demand for access to real-time information continues to grow, we have aligned our products to meet the requirements of the evolving partnership between electronic mail and strategic information products," explained John F. Berentson, Comtex's president and CEO.
"Electronic messaging services are helping businesses change the way they do business, surmounting global time differences and empowering mobile workers," said Robert Henry, Information Services Director for AT&T EasyLink Services. "Integrating competitive intelligence into our service, such as Comtex's news, provides our users with an added edge. Events of this year show the importance to business of timely news coverage on topics such as the presidential election and emerging developments in Eastern Europe and the European Community."
