AT&T APPOINTS NEW CEO AT AMERICAN TRANSTECH
 NEW YORK, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) said today Monica

Mehan has been appointed as president and chief executive officer of AT&T American Transtech, Inc., the first woman to head one of the company's major business units.
Mehan, whose new post becomes effective Sept. 1, is currently vice president for consumer account management services in AT&T's consumer long-distance unit.
American Transtech, one of the largest employers in Jacksonville, Fla., is AT&T's wholly owned subsidiary for information and marketing services. Founded in 1983, the unit currently employs about 4,000 people in Jacksonville, plus more than 1,000 others between locations in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., San Jose, Calif., and Metz, France.
Mehan moved up through the ranks at AT&T after starting in 1966 as a computer operations clerk with Illinois Bell, advancing to management positions that included training and development, finance and customer billing.
She succeeds John D. Foster, who has been appointed to be a vice president in AT&T's European region based in Brussels.
"American Transtech is an integral part of AT&T and Monica Mehan will be instrumental in the company's success as it continues to focus on information and marketing services," said Robert Ranalli, president of AT&T Consumer Services.
American Transtech was formed just before the breakup of the Bell System to provide services for investors whose AT&T shares became holdings in the post-divestiture AT&T and the regional Bell telephone companies.
It has since evolved into a leading provider of information and marketing services, including telephone-based marketing and employee services; commercial information services; direct mail and fulfillment, and list and data base management.
