 AT&T ANNOUNCES NEW LONG-DISTANCE SERVICE
FOR AMERICANS TRAVELING OR LIVING ABROAD
ATLANTA, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T has announced a new service for Americans traveling or living abroad that makes calling other countries as easy as calling back to the United States.
AT&T's World Connect(R) Service allows users to place calls to and from 34 countries by using their AT&T Calling Card or Universal Card. It also eliminates the need to understand unfamiliar foreign calling procedures, gives users a single record of their calls and eliminates language barriers by allowing the assistance of an English-speaking operator.
"Americans who appreciate the convenience of calling home with AT&T USADirect(R) Service have told us they want the same service when they call other countries while traveling," said Margaret Barrett, AT&T director, global consumer services. "We are introducing the service to and from 34 countries and will add more as we complete negotiations with our partners in telecommunications administrations around the world."
Customers can access AT&T World Connect Service by dialing the AT&T USADirect Service number from countries where World Connect is available (see following list).
Callers then give the AT&T operator the country code, city code and local number of the person they want to reach, along with their AT&T Calling Card or Universal Card number, and the operator completes the call. In countries with touch-tone capabilities, callers will be instructed in English to enter dialing and billing information themselves.
"The beauty of World Connect is its familiar ease of use," Barrett said. "Americans living or traveling outside the United States will now be able to place and pay for calls made to another country as easily as they do when they call back to the States."
AT&T World Connect joins a family of AT&T services that helps customers keep in touch and manage work while on the road. Through AT&T USADirect Service, callers have access to AT&T Message Service, which allows users to leave voice messages in more than 170 countries. It connects callers to AT&T Language Line(R) Services, which provides interpreters in more than 140 languages. Users can place up to 10 calls with a single connection to an AT&T operator. Customers also can reach AT&T 800 numbers as well as directory assistance in the United States.

AT&T World Connect will be available April 29, pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
