AT&T, OTHER CO-SPONSORS UNVEIL 'THE EXPORT HOTLINE' CHICAGO, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) and several multinational corporations, including Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL), today unveiled an information service to help Georgia businesses launch or expand their export sales. "The Export Hotline" -- announced at the National Manufacturing Week trade convention now under way in Chicago -- is a fax information retrieval system designed to help U.S. companies learn about worldwide markets. The database contains up-to-date information on 50 key industries of all major trading partners of the United States and can be accessed from anywhere in the country 24 hours a day. AT&T, the lead sponsor of The Export Hotline, is joined by co-sponsors Delta Air Lines, Berlitz International, DHL Airways, KPMG Peat Marwick, Cahners Publishing Company, Reed Exhibition Company and the Journal of Commerce. It is supported by the U.S. Department of Commerce as a means to promote U.S. exports. "Without convenient access to information about overseas markets, many smaller companies with very marketable products and services often hesitate to expand sales to other countries," said Ray Butkus, AT&T's director of International Business Services. The Export Hotline is designed as a starting point for international trade information. The service was developed by International Strategies, a Boston consulting firm, and implemented in Massachusetts during 1991 with AT&T as the main sponsor and KPMG Peat Marwick as a sponsor. It is now available nationwide. Using a new fax-back technology developed by AT&T, The Export Hotline allows callers to use their fax machines to retrieve information from a database. By calling the 800 USA-XPORT toll-free number, callers will receive the menu and codes of available countries and industries. They then use their fax machines to send the country/industry codes of their choice to a designated telephone number, and receive by return fax customized reports within minutes. A typical report is five to 10 pages long.
