AT&T'S LONG-DISTANCE PRICES WILL BE REDUCED BY
$116 MILLION ON NEW YEAR'S DAY
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T's long-distance prices in California will be reduced on New Year's Day by $116 million.
The price reduction is AT&T's forth in-state reduction in the past 12 months. since December 1990, AT&T has reduced its long-distance prices in California by more than $250 million.
AT&T said the reductions affect prices for in-state direct-dial, operator-assisted and card calls in all rate periods.
Additionally, the company said it is reducing prices for many of its specialized business and residential services, including its REACH OUT(R) California calling plans, AT&T 800 READYLINE(R), WATS, 800 AND SDN(R) service.
Dick Bromley, AT&T government affairs vice president, said that approximately $87 million of this latest reduction reflects reductions in the charges paid by AT&T to local telephone companies for access to their networks.
Bromley said the price of a 10-minute, daytime, direct-dial call between San Francisco and Los Angeles will drop from $1.70 to $1.41. At the residential night and weekend rate, a similar call will cost only $1.05.
"Low long-distance rates are advantageous for business and residential customers and these new, lower prices are one of the many advantages of using AT&T long-distance service in California," Bromley said.
