ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN RAILROADS ISSUES STATEMENT ON APPOINTMENT OF PENA AS TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY

WASHINGTON, Dec. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association of American Railroads issued the following statement by President and CEO Edwin L. Harper, regarding the appointment of Frederico Pena as secretary of transportation:
We are pleased that President-elect Clinton has designated former Denver Mayor Frederico Pena as secretary of transportation. Mr. Pena's experience in effectively leading the Clinton transition team's transportation cluster group will be a great asset in facing the transportation issues of our country. In addition, the dynamic role he played in handling Colorado's transportation concerns will serve him well. We know he will recognize the railroad's importance as part of the solution to building a sound infrastructure, alleviating congestion on highways, and in creating a healthier environment. Railroads support this nomination and are prepared to help the secretary meet the transportation challenges of the United States.
