 ASSISTANT IBM TREASURER JOHN H. STEWART TO RETIRE
 ARMONK, N.Y., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- John H. Stewart, an assistant


IBM treasurer, will retire from IBM today after 35 years of service. He will become executive vice president and chief financial officer of Axiom Real Estate Management Inc., the IBM and Grubb & Ellis Co. property and facilities management joint venture that will begin operations Sept. 1.
 Stewart joined IBM in 1957. He held various management positions in financial planning before being named corporate manager of budgets, General Business Group, in 1970. He became controller for IBM's Federal Systems Division in 1973 and was named controller of the Data Processing Product Group in 1976. Stewart was elected an IBM assistant controller in 1978 and was elected to his current position in 1985.
 "John Stewart has made many valuable contributions to IBM," said Frank A. Metz Jr., IBM senior vice president, finance and planning. "He helped to guide and shape IBM's responses to complex accounting and financial reporting changes, and has led our audit team to new levels of quality. We wish him well as he begins a new set of challenges."
