Multispecialty care clinics improve access to
health care services for Blue Plus members
ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Plus, the HMO affiliate of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (BCBSM), today announced that it has signed an agreement with Aspen Medical Group, P.A., for the clinic to participate in its network of health care providers.
"We are pleased to be working with one of the metropolitan area's top multispecialty care clinics," said Mary Brainerd, BCBSM senior vice president and COO of Blue Plus. "By having Aspen on board, we are improving significantly the access our members have to high-quality health care services."
As one of the largest multispecialty care clinics in the Twin Cities, Aspen Medical Group, P.A., has 115 health care providers encompassing primary care and 17 subspecialty areas. The group also offers urgent care services at its Bandana Square and Bloomington locations.
"We're excited to be participating in the Blue Plus network of providers," said William Riley, CEO of the Aspen Medical Group. "Aspen has a long-standing commitment to quality health care management, and we are confident our multispecialty approach to patient care complements the Blue Plus provider network."
In an HMO, a member typically is required to choose a single clinic or health care provider that is responsible for coordinating all health care services delivered to that member.
Members covered under Preferred Gold, Wellness 80, Comprehensive Basic, Medicare & More, the State Health Plan and other Triple Gold health plans administered by BCBSM and Blue Plus now can select physicians practicing at Aspen clinics as their provider of primary care health services.
With nearly 250 participating primary care clinics, Blue Plus is one of the state's largest HMOs. In 1991, the plan played an integral role in the development of a statewide flu shot campaign and a health care market reform plan to help the uninsured. The plan has also pursued several preventive health care initiatives, including a prenatal birth program and a clinic-based, physician-assisted smoking cessation program. Blue Plus members interested in selecting an Aspen Medical Group clinic as their primary care clinic should contact Blue Plus customer service at 612-456-8000.
