ASM INTERNATIONAL N.V. TERMINATES NEGOTIATIONS ON SUBSIDIARY SALE TO KULICKE AND SOFFA; ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH ANOTHER PURCHASER

 BILTHOVEN, The Netherlands, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- ASM International N.V. (NASDAQ: ASMIF) announced today that negotiations with Kulicke and Soffa Industries for the sale of the assets of ASM Fico Tooling B.V. (Fico) were terminated.
 ASM International also announced that it has entered into an agreement with a European purchaser for the sale of 100 percent of the outstanding stock of ASM's wholly-owned subsidiary, Fico, for approximately $32.6 million in cash plus the assumption of Fico's liabilities including bank indebtedness of approximately $17 million. ASM is also entitled to receive certain commissions after closing on revenues from designated Fico projects. Closing of the sale is scheduled for October 1993. A significant portion of the proceeds will be used to retire part of the existing bank debt of the parent company.
 The Netherlands-based Fico and its subsidiaries manufacture automated molding and trim and form systems. Fico's 1992 sales were approximately $60 million.
 ASM International N.V., headquartered in Bilthoven, designs, manufactures and markets equipment and materials used to produce semiconductor devices. The company provides production solutions for the wafer processing, assembly and encapsulation areas through its facilities in Japan, the United States, Europe and Asia.
