WITH AGGRESSIVE MARKETING, ADVERTISING AND CUSTOMER SERVICE EFFORTS
 FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- 1991 was a year of extraordinary growth for ASICS TIGER Corporation, tallying a 48 percent overall increase that is setting a rapid pace for expansion and substantial sales gains for 1992.
 Finishing 1991 with $185 million in sales, vs. $125 million in sales during 1990, ASICS(R) is touting one of the highest rates of growth within today's athletic footwear industry.
 The 1992 year will see ASICS continue this momentum, setting a goal for the company of $264 million in sales overall. Currently, with footwear bookings up 74 percent and apparel bookings up 100 percent, ASICS is making brisk, consistent progress toward growth and expansion.
 In order to realize the company's developmental objectives, ASICS has identified a number of areas to concentrate its efforts and therefore continue increasing brand awareness.
 "Many industry observers see the current athletic industry as a stagnant market," said Peter Goehrig, vice president and general manager of ASICS.
 "While the market may be dormant for many of our competitors, ASICS is growing at a rate that the company has never before experienced. In order to keep the velocity going, ASICS is looking toward ways it can investment spend, and continue to differentiate itself from the pack."
 Operationally laying the groundwork for improved and exceptional service, ASICS recently approved a $600,000 computer system upgrade for its customer service department. The new system, which will be fully operational by year's end, is looked upon as a vital factor in offering better assistance to the company's retail base. In addition, ASICS will double its customer service staff and invest another $200,000 in its current telephone system.
 Advertising is an area that will also see substantial dollar investment during 1992. Positioning ASICS as a premier performance brand, ASICS advertising will directly target the mental and physical dedication that athletes must conquer in order to become the best in their chosen field of competition. Looking to appeal to a broader range of consumers, ASICS has initiated a print schedule that includes a variety of consumer and enthusiast publications, and produced what is looked at as the company's most unique, versatile group of television commercials.
 The new theme associated with the 1992 advertising campaign, "The Will To Win, Means Nothing Without The Will To Prepare," directly correlates to the aggressive stance the company is taking to propel ASICS forward within the sporting goods industry. The tag line being utilized as ASICS makes its push for growth is "ASICS: The Next Level(TM)."
 Research and the development of technology have always been a force associated with ASICS and 1992 is no exception. The fall season will see the introduction of Dyna-GEL(TM), a dynamic, fluid version of ASICS original cushioning system used in GEL(TM) athletic shoes, and the GEL-Nite Lyte(TM), ASICS first running show to incorporate electronics in a performance athletic shoe.
 ASICS will actively push its marketing efforts in 1992 within seven key categories, which will include an introduction to the walking shoe market. Specific target marketing will also be applied to the women's market where ASICS is gaining substantial market share across the board in all categories. And, value price points will continue to be a marketable factor for the company.
