 ASHLAND COAL SIGNS LONG-TERM COAL SALES CONTRACT WITH
 WISCONSIN PUBLIC SERVICE CORPORATION
 HUNTINGTON, W.Va., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashland Coal, Inc. (NYSE: ACI) announced that it has been awarded a long-term coal supply contract by Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS). The coal will be supplied to the WPS Pulliam Station Units 5-8 and Weston Station Units 1-2 located in Green Bay and Rothschild, Wis., respectively.
 The contract provides for up to 500,000 tons of compliance coal annually. Deliveries will begin in June 1992. The contract term is to December 1997 and may be extended by WPS through 2002. Under the contract, the coal will be supplied from Mingo Logan Coal Company, an independent operating subsidiary of Ashland Coal, located on the Norfolk Southern railroad in Mingo County, W.Va. It is expected that the high quality Mingo Logan coal will be blended with western sub-bituminous coal.
 William C. Payne, Ashland Coal president and chief executive officer, said, "We are pleased to be part of Wisconsin Public Service's state air emissions compliance strategy which takes effect in 1993. We have the high quality coal which can be supplied over the long term, and we look forward to a continuing supply relationship with this excellent company."
 Ashland Coal, Inc. is engaged in the mining, processing and sale of low-sulfur coal which it markets principally to electric utilities in the eastern United States and into the export markets.
