ASCN Selects Insight Telecommunications for Satellite Capacity to Launch Regional HDTV Sports Network.

BOSTON, July 10 /PRNewswire/ --

InSight Telecommunications, a leading provider of content delivery services for the broadcasting, cable and Internet industries, has been selected as the provider of satellite transmission capacity by the Oregon-based Action Sports Cable Network (ASCN), enabling the company to launch the first regional High Definition TV (HDTV) sports network. ASCN will utilize some of InSight's extensive satellite capacity to initiate the network and distribute programming throughout the United States.

The multiyear contract provides ASCN with one 36 MHz Ku-band transponder on the GE-2 satellite for transmission of the channel's anchor sports shows: Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Seahawks pre-season, and Portland Fire games, Trail Blazers and Seahawks coaches' shows, and Rip City TV. Additionally, ASCN will present extensive coverage of Washington and Oregon collegiate and local sports, as well as wide array of collegiate athletic events from across the country.

InSight, who has the largest available inventory of C- and Ku-band transponders in North America, had provided transmission services for the distribution of the Portland Trail Blazers games in the 2000 to 2001 season. "We selected InSight not only because of its exceptional track record transmitting the Trail Blazers games last season, but for meeting the specific requirements of ASCN with high-quality capacity," said Mike Janes, Director of Engineering, Action Sports Cable Network.

"We're excited to help facilitate an innovative concept in broadcasting," said Keith Buckley, President and CEO, InSight Telecommunications. "We appreciate ASCN's vote of confidence in InSight's ability to provide the capacity they need, when they need it."

ASCN is a member of the Paul G. Allen family of sports companies, which includes the Portland Trail Blazers NBA team, the Seattle Seahawks NFL franchise, The Sporting News -- one of the country's most respected sports information and news organizations for the past 114 years -- Sporting News Radio, and Action Sports Media, which develops and markets sponsorship opportunities in collegiate athletic venues across the country.
