ASBESTOS FEARS AT BLAZE SITE; Chemical fire probe halted by safety concern.

SAFETY chiefs discovered asbestos at the heart of the massive chemical factory blaze at Linthwaite.

They sealed off part of the site - but it was revealed last night that intruders have been getting into that part of the Grosvenor Chemicals complex to steal scrap metal.

Details of the problems were revealed by a Kirklees councillor, amid concerns about the inquiry after the massive blaze last month.

Clr David Ridgway, who chairs West Yorkshire Fire Authority, revealed Health and Safety Executive staff who found asbestos had halted the investigation until it was cleared. The fire caused millions of pounds of damage.
