ASAMERA MINERALS ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF MELIADINE RIVER DRILLING
CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Asamera Minerals Inc. (Toronto, Montreal: AUA) today announced results of its 1991 exploration program at Meliadine River, 20 kilometers north of Rankin Inlet in the Northwest Territories. Forty holes were drilled to further evaluate the property which was the site of a 1990 gold discovery.
Work was done in two areas covering a gold-bearing, sulphidized iron formation associated with a major structure traced for 72 kilometers along strike. Promising gold occurrences have been found at both the discovery area, and to the west.
Following completion of ground surveys, a diamond drill program consisting of 34 holes totaling 4,545 meters was conducted at the discovery area. Ten holes tested the depth extension of the mineralized structure encountered in 1990 and significant gold values were intersected at a vertical level of 305 meters. The zone remains open at depth. Eight of the 10 holes encountered significant mineralization:

Exploration on the structure west of the discovery area delineated several areas of glacially transported boulders containing high-grade gold values. Six holes totalling 686 meters tested six targets on the Wes-Meg occurrence 16 kilometers west of Discovery. Several anomalous gold values were intersected, the most significant being 0.464 ounces of gold per ton over a 2.5-meter section.
Asamera Minerals plans an expanded exploration program to further evaluate these prospects beginning in the first quarter of 1992. Because of the high level of activity at the discovery area in 1991, only limited work was done on lands to the east. Geophysics and ground prospecting, with follow-up drilling, is planned for 1992 to see if the discovery mineralization extends eastward.
Asamera has the right to earn up to a 75 percent interest in the 26,400-acre portion of the property known as the discovery area; Comaplex Minerals Corp. would then have 25 percent. Rio Algom Ltd. has the option to earn a 60 percent interest in certain lands west of 92 degrees W longitude, including the Wes-Meg occurrence, by funding $5 million in exploration over the next six years; Asamera and Comaplex each retain a 20 percent interest. Asamera is operator of the Meliadine River programs.
