ARVIN NAMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

 COLUMBUS, Ind., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- James K. Baker, chairman of the board of Arvin Industries, Inc. (NYSE: ARV), announced today that William D. George, Jr., and Ivan W. Gorr were elected to the Arvin board of directors, effective Jan. 1, 1994. George was elected for a term expiring in 1996 to fill a vacancy on the board. Gorr was elected for a term expiring in 1994 and will be a nominee for election to a three-year term at the 1994 annual meeting of shareholders.
 George is president and chief executive officer of S.C. Johnson & Sons, Inc. The company is known informally as Johnson Wax, does about 60 percent of its business overseas, and has operations in China and the former Soviet Union.
 George joined S.C. Johnson Wax as executive vice president of Johnson Wax Associates in 1981 from Brown Group, Inc., in St. Louis where he was group vice president and president of Juvenile and Recreation Products. Prior to joining Brown in 1970 he held various management positions in corporate development and marketing for 11 years at General Mills. George holds an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business and a bachelors degree in Economics from DePauw University.
 Gorr serves as chairman and chief executive officer of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. He began his career with Cooper Tire in 1972 as corporate controller, coming from the auditing firm of Arthur Young & Company.
 Gorr is also chairman of the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the board of trustees of The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges, Inc. and The University of Toledo Foundation and serves on the Business Advisory Council for the University's College of Business Administration. He is also a director of the Rubber Manufacturers Association and is a director of The Highway Users Federation.
 Gorr is a graduate of the University of Toledo and is a certified public accountant.
