ARTISOFT FOUNDER REACTS TO TERMINATION

TUCSON, Ariz., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- As reported earlier, the board of directors of Artisoft Inc. today terminated Artisoft's founder C. John (Jack) Schoof II as chief executive officer and chairman of the board of directors. Schoof issued the following statement in response to the board's action:
"I do not agree with the action taken by the board today and voted against it. I remain a board member and as a substantial shareholder of Artisoft, will continue to closely follow its affairs.
"I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank the many hard- working employees that helped me build Artisoft over the years into one of the fastest-growing companies in America. The employees should be proud of what they have accomplished in such a short time. I am deeply saddened that I will not be working side by side with them at Artisoft in the future.
"Artisoft continues to have great products. I have faith in those products. The legacy of LANtastic that Alex Karahalios and I created in 1987 will continue to rise above this action.
"I also want to thank the thousands of Artisoft dealers and end users. Your continued purchases of LANtastic are well warranted, the products continue to be best suited to your needs.
"Although my plans for the immediate future are uncertain at this time, I intend to remain visible in the industry."
Schoof has been a professional computer programmer since 1972, at the age of 14. At 17, he began his own computer consulting business. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1980. At 24, he founded Artisoft with $40,000. Ten years later in 1992, Artisoft was named the No. 1 Hot Growth company by Business Week Magazine. Schoof was named entrepreneur of the year in the southwest region in 1991, and was recently named one of the 25 most influential persons in the computer industry by Computer Reseller News Magazine.
