ARTHUR W. SCHMUTZ ELECTED DIRECTOR OF H.F. AHMANSON & CO.
IRWINDALE, Calif., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- H.F. Ahmanson & Co. (NYSE: AHM) announced today the election of Arthur W. Schmutz to the company's board of directors. His election brings the number of Ahmanson directors to 15. Schmutz is currently advisory counsel to the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where he was a senior partner until 1987 and directed its corporate practice. He has also been involved with the American Bar Association in its corporate law and governance activities. Schmutz received his bachelor's degree from The Johns Hopkins University and his law degree from Harvard Law School. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Ducommun Inc. and Data-Design Laboratories and is a trustee of the Orthopaedic Hospital. He previously served on the boards of directors of CalFed Inc., California Federal Bank, Beneficial Standard Life Insurance Co., and Trust Services of America. H.F.
