Byline: The Register-GuardBRING exhibit features re-creations
"Re-fashion," an art exhibit featuring re-creations by local designers, opens with a reception from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday and runs through Sept. 9 at BRING, 4446 Franklin Blvd.
The show includes elaborate costumes, funky fashion and practical everyday wear, with many pieces made from nontraditional scrap materials.
"If you have the mind of a visionary and the heart of an artist, anything and everything has the potential to be transformed," designer Terrisa West says.
The opening coincides with the BRING Birthday Bash, a free all-day festival celebrating BRING's 40th birthday. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
New gallery opens in Yachats
YACHATS - A new art and design gallery, Synchronicity101, has opened on the coast in Yachats.
Owner Bren Stockton-Wheeler says her gallery, located in the Green House Market Place in north Yachats, specializes in modern and contemporary art and design pieces for the home and office.
Hours are from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday or by appointment at 541-547-3095.
Springfield school profiled in new report
The Springfield Academy of Arts and Academics is among the Oregon people and arts institutions profiled in "Proficiency in the Arts and Beyond: Arts Learning in Oregon," a monograph that's just been published by the Oregon Arts Commission.
The report looks at eight individuals and organizations making a positive impact in their educational communities. It's available at OregonArtsCommission.org.
