ARRIS (Nasdaq:ARRS), a provider of broadband local access networks,announcedon Wednesday (5 April) that Comcast, a provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, has signed a purchase agreement for a minimum of 1.2m ARRIS Touchstone Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapters (E-MTAs) over the next two years.

An E-MTA is the combination modem and phone adapter located in a customer's home which delivers Internet Protocol (IP) voice and data traffic.

Under the agreement ARRIS will equip the Comcast E-MTAs with battery back up for service reliability in case of a power failure in the home.

Financial details of the agreement were not available.
