 ARMSTRONG WORLD INDUSTRIES RELEASES ANNOUNCEMENT
LANCASTER, Pa., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Armstrong World Industries,

Inc. (NYSE: ACK), of Lancaster, and National Rolling Mills, Inc., of Malvern, Pa., are forming a joint-venture company for the production and sale of grid used to support suspended acoustical ceiling systems.
The new company, with headquarters at Malvern, is scheduled to be in operation as of June 1. It will take over the operation of three manufacturing facilities now being used to produce the ceiling grid -- a plant currently run by National Rolling Mills at Malvern and plants now being operated by Armstrong at Franklin Park, Ill., and Sparrows Point, Md.
National Rolling Mills is a subsidiary of Worthington Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: WTHG), of Columbus, Ohio, a leading manufacturer of steel and plastic products. Founded in 1955, Worthington, like Armstrong, is a Fortune 500 company.
Armstrong is known primarily as a manufacturer and marketer of interior furnishings, including not only ceiling systems but also floor coverings (resilient flooring and ceramic tile) and furniture. The company also makes a variety of specialty products for industrial use.
Armstrong's field marketing representatives will sell the grid to be produced by the joint venture, along with Armstrong's broad line of acoustical ceiling materials for use in commercial-institutional and residential buildings. Armstrong will have the responsibility for product development at its research and development and its product styling and design facilities, situated on the 750-acre Armstrong Innovation Center campus in Lancaster.
Management of the joint-venture company will comprise people from both Armstrong and National Rolling Mills. The specific names and assignments of those who will be involved have not yet been announced.
"We can hardly overemphasize the importance of this step in our ceilings business," said Henry A. Bradshaw, group vice-president of Armstrong's Building Products Operations, in announcing formation of the joint venture. "It will enable us to bring together National Rolling Mills' strength in production and Armstrong's strength in marketing in a way that provides a stronger base than either company has had previously."
David J. Feight, general manager of sales and marketing for Armstrong's Building Products Operations, said, "We believe that this joint venture brings together the marketing, product innovation, and sales strength of Armstrong and the extensive product line and the manufacturing and logistics expertise of National Rolling Mills. As a result, the Armstrong-National Rolling Mills joint venture will provide a complete line of grid and accessories under the Armstrong brand name and will be in an excellent position to service and support all of our customers' grid requirements."
