ARMSTRONG WORLD INDUSTRIES ISSUES PERSONNEL ANNOUNCEMENT

 LANCASTER, Pa., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (NYSE: ACK), has elected Stephen C. Hendrix an officer of the company to serve as treasurer.
 Hendrix previously served as vice-president and treasurer of SmithKline Beecham Corporation, Philadelphia, a $5 billion-per-year pharmaceutical and consumer products company.
 While at SmithKline Beecham, Hendrix directed the domestic and international treasury for that company, including corporate and international finance, bank relations, cash management, capital structure, acquisition review, foreign exchange and cash investments for the parent and 200 subsidiary companies in 50 countries.
 Prior to joining SmithKline Beecham in 1978, Hendrix was at E.I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company for five years as a bank relationship manager, at Anchor Hocking Corporation for three years as a division chief financial officer and international controller, and at Litton Industries (Amecom Systems Division) for two years as a marketing administration manager.
 A native of Paoli, Pa., Hendrix is a 1964 graduate of Texas Christian University, where he received a degree in international relations. He went on to receive an M.A. in international affairs at American University in 1966, attended the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. State Department for two years, and in 1972 obtained an M.B.A. in finance at Ohio State University.
 In his position at Armstrong, Hendrix will report to William J. Wimer, Armstrong's chief financial officer.
